2nd Rated Speech Sample training aid project panel meeting
The meeting was attended by: Henry Emery (ICAEA project coordinator), Gabor Sipos (HungaroControl), Nicole Barrette Sabourin (ICAO), Bozena Slawinska (PANSA), Terence Gerighty (ICAEA Treasurer), Charles Alderson (University of Lancaster), Angela ffrench (Cambridge ESOL), Pieke Satijn (Eurocontrol), Mike ffrench (IT support) and Philip Shawcross (ICAEA).
Before the meeting, the panel had performed a first screening of nearly one hundred samples received from 19 different test providers. During the meeting the panel was able to listen to samples from 17 different providers in order to decide whether the test tasks elicited appropriate samples of ratable speech. Since the April meeting, the panel members have proceeded with a more detailed screening of the usable samples, annotating them for editing (removal of all specific reference, dead time etc.) and enhancement of sound quality.
Mike ffrench has developed a dedicated website which will be used by raters to download the samples upon which they will be working and to upload their ratings and feedback.
An e-mail has been sent to over seventy raters to request their participation in the project and a revised action plan has been drawn up.
